The NBA referees generally work hard and make sure that every game is officiated in a fair, just, and equal manner. Referees aren’t perfect, though, and occasionally they slip up.
Recently, there has been a lot of outrage over a missed call on LeBron James at the end of the Lakers-Celtics game. LeBron James himself has spoken about it, claiming that he doesn’t understand why he doesn’t get calls, when he’s “attacking the paint just as much” as other stars in the league.
“It’s challenging, really challenging. I don’t get it. I’m attacking the paint just as much as any of the other guys in this league shooting double-digit free throws a night. I don’t get it. I don’t understand it.”
Many other people have criticized the referees for this call, especially since it was so crucial to the outcome. The Lakers ended up losing in overtime, but the right call could have gotten them the win, as LeBron James would have been at the free throw line with a chance to go ahead in the game.
The Referees Have Recently Released A Statement About The Missed Call
The NBA referees have recently made a statement about their blunder in the Lakers-Celtics game. They admitted that they “make mistakes” like everybody else, adding that the play will “weigh heavily” on them.
Like everyone else, referees make mistakes. We made one at the end of last night’s game and that is gut-wrenching for us. This play will weigh heavily and cause sleepless nights as we strive to be the best referees we can be.https://t.co/WyN8QVuTOl

There is no doubt that this was a terrible call from the referees, but perhaps we will see them improve in the future. The majority of referees in the league are top-tier professionals who do their job well to try and ensure quality officiating.
Though the Los Angeles Lakers won’t be able to get this game back, what they can do is focus on their upcoming games. They have a legitimate chance to be a playoff seed and bypass the play-in tournament if they go on a winning streak. With LeBron James dominating and Anthony Davis being healthy, they have all the talent that they need for a deep run.
It remains to be seen how well the Los Angeles Lakers do for the rest of the season. They are a veteran team that could take advantage of the West being wide open, but they could also end up disappointing as well.
