The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s massive output of superhero movies that become blockbuster hits is quite commendable, and it shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. But there’s always that one competitor (we’re talking about James Cameron here) that ends up one-upping the other every once in a while, and the MCU will have to look out for that.
In fact, it already had that competitor in Hollywood even before its conception. James Cameron, the man who cannot fail when it comes to making box office hits, has earned a very notable achievement born from Avatar: The Way of Water‘s commercial success, which even the MCU will need some time to match.

James Cameron on the set of Titanic
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has executed and hit all the right spots in this regard- it’s currently one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time and that is no easy feat to come by. Now one would think, how could anyone else possibly dethrone such a well-structured and planned franchise that has a lot more to offer?
The answer would lie in the works of James Cameron, who has been giving competition to the MCU at the box office ever since the release of Titanic. And now just a decade later, with Avatar. Both movies crossed the billion-dollar mark (and more) at the box office.
