The lack of a foul call may not have received as much attention in recent days as it did after the Lakers-Celtics game. Even though it occurred during a regular season game, tensions spiked when Jayson Tatum hacked LeBron James and no one was called, which led to some amazing reactions both during and after the game.
LeBron James was the first in a series of players, coaches, and fans to highlight how bad the missed call was through their reaction. The King fell on the court while showcasing exactly how much disbelief he was in. Patrick Beverley also got in on the act, bringing a camera onto the court to show the referee how blatant the foul was. And while others had a lot to say about it, too, Beverley has shed some light on what LeBron James was thinking when he showed his irritation in that manner.
Patrick Beverley Opened Up On What LeBron James Said To Him About The Controversial Play Against The Celtics
The Boston Celtics benefited from that decision from the referees, the Lakers were seemingly too frustrated to get the win in overtime. And a picture of James dejectedly sitting out the final play of the game has also gone viral. Speaking on the Pat Bev podcast, Beverley explained what LeBron James told him about it when the game was over.
“I told [LeBron] in the locker room, ‘I’ve been around you 13, 14 years. I ain’t never seen you react like that.’ He’s like ‘Pat I ain’t gonna lie, I almost lost my sh*t.’ And all due respect, he should have though. He should have done more. I mean, that hurts. That hurts. I mean that was the vibe, in the plane. Because we won that game. We won.”
Everyone on the Los Angeles Lakers felt the frustration of losing another game when they should have added a landmark win to the tally instead. The King is on his way to achieving something truly historic, but if the Lakers can’t make the postseason, it will be a big disappointment.
This could prove to be a hugely motivating factor for the team though. They have Anthony Davis back, and LeBron James will have fire in his belly now, and they could still add another solid player or two via trade before the deadline. Whether that reaction was warranted or not, it won’t matter if the Lakers can use it to propel themselves into the playoffs.
