This very second, two male lions kill and eat a warthog for lunch. Kosie Lategan has been a field and safari guide for the last seven years.
The video that follows was shot on a private concession along the Sabi River in the Kruger National Park.
Kosie said that they noticed two male lions standing approximately 100 meters down the road. The two lions are known as the Avoca males. They saw what appeared to be an aardvark tunnel that the two lions were digging into as they drew up to where they were stationary.
They quickly resumed digging at the burrow’s entrance after they came to a stop nearby. They chose to observe and wait because they could tell that soᴍᴇᴛʜing inside the burrow must have captured their attention.
They realized they were now clearly on to soᴍᴇᴛʜing when they both started digging more intently, almost not giving the other a chance. A warthog’s shrieking was all they heard after one of the lions poked his head inside the tunnel, followed immediately by the other lion. With such force, the lions tore the warthog out of its burrow, uprooting the bush that the burrow had been excavated under in the process.
