One journalist branded Manchester United’s game management “dreadful” against Leeds United, while he also called Wout Weghorst “poor”.

United have been on a fantastic run since the back end of last year. Indeed, since their league loss to Aston Villa in November they’ve lost just one game – against Arsenal in January.
They stumbled in a midweek Premier League game against Leeds recently. Indeed, they went two goals down, before goals from Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho rescued the game.
The following game saw them take on Leeds again. They managed to overcome the Elland Road outfit 2-0, and moved up to second in the league in the process.
While they did win the game, one journalist wasn’t impressed with the performance, especially in the early stages.
Indeed, Manchester Evening News United writer Samuel Luckhurst had criticism for a few of the players, as well as for the team in the general.
Weghorst ‘poor’, thought journalist\
“United players’ game management has been dreadful. Too dilatory on the ball and failing to pick out presentable passes,” he said on Twitter.
“Midfield duo have lacked presence and Weghorst has been poor.”
Indeed, the summation of the game shows the high standards that are set for the club. Even when they are not in a bad spot, United have people questioning aspects of the side.
It’s fair to say Weghorst has struggled to hit the ground running during his time at Old Trafford. While the Dutchman scored in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg against Nottingham Forest, that’s been his only impact.
He was signed essentially as a stop gap, as it looks clear a quality striker will be pursued in the summer. That seems all the more obvious after seeing him for a few games.
United are coping but striker signing needed
If it wasn’t for Marcus Rashford – who has now scored 12 league goals this season – United would not be nearly as impactful in the final third.
As such, it seems they could certainly do with adding a quality striker to the lineup. A player of Weghorst’s standard shouldn’t really be at United anyway.
What’s more, they should not have to just rely on one man to find the net every week.
If they are to sign a striker in the summer, they could build on their good form from this season. Indeed, they could once again become contenders for the league title.
Victor Osimhen has been tipped to be United’s favoured option in the summer. Recent reports have stated they are in front of Chelsea at the head of the pursuit.
A player of his quality would be a fantastic addition to the side; he’s scored 16 goals in 17 Serie A games this season. He and Rashford would be a very deadly duo up top.
