The heartbreaking sighting was captured by Pieter van Wyk, a 33-year-old game ranger at Mala Mala, who was traveling with a family from Texas.
Pieter stated that they had discovered a group of 12 wild dogs, including 4 adults and 8 pups. They watched them joyously interact with one another for an hour. All four of the grownups soon departed to go ʜᴜɴᴛing.
After only a short while of watching them ʜᴜɴᴛ, they spotted a scrub hare and chased it about 500 meters into an aardvark den. A life was in jeopardy, which made it thrilling, suspenseful, and serious.
Additionally, there were a few fleetingly amusing instances when one of the dogs would approach the one digging and wind up with a face full of dust. The sighting went well for the dogs but not so well for the scrub hare.
Pieter said that it’s always special to spend time with one of the world’s most ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴛened predators. It was wonderful to observe them interacting in nature, just a few meters away from him. Observing a ᴋɪʟʟ, in his perspective, was not soᴍᴇᴛʜing to look forward to or ғᴇᴀʀ. It was nature in its purest form.
