Nikola Jokic knows who he wants to suit up with to win an NBA championship, and it’s another European superstar.
The Denver Nuggets center expressed that he would team up with Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic. Speaking to reporters during the media availability ahead of the All-Star break, the two-time MVP said he wanted to play with his “friend.”
When asked who he would like to play with and win an NBA title, Jokic had a crisp response, and the reply didn’t really come as a surprise.
Today at media availability, Nikola Jokic said, if he had to choose a player from another team to win a championship, he’d choose his friend, Luka Doncic and the Mavs.
Jokic was selected as a starter for the All-Star game which marks his fifth straight selection and third consecutive year being named as an All-Star Starter.
Nikola Jokic Calls Luka Doncic “Unguardable”
In what comes as the perfect “game recognizes game” moment, Jokic called the Mavericks to guard unguardable and also had a generous dose of praise dished out to him.
Speaking to the media, he did put his jovial self aside and was serious when he spoke about Doncic’s skill and what he brings to the hardwood every single game.
“He is a one-man army. He is the guy who can destroy you, who can really manipulate the game the right way. There is no good matchup for him. … He is a really, really unique player, and he is a really good guy.”
Jokic has already been considered the frontrunner for a third MVP. At the time of writing, the big man averages 24.7 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 10.1 assists. Recently, he was favored by the media members for a third run at winning a consecutive MVP.
Should he indeed win the first NBA player to win three consecutive Most Valuable Players since 1986, after Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird won his third and final MVP.
