Manchester United have been linked with Jeremie Frimpong for quite some time and the latest reports are highly positive for the Red Devils.
Back in November last year, Sky Germany revealed that the Bayer Leverkusen right back is expected to complete a move to Old Trafford in summer.
As per the latest update provided by Head of Football for Bild, Christian Falk, Frimpong is close to agreeing a move to Manchester United.
The renowned German journalist told Caught Offside:
“Jeremie Frimpong is getting closer and closer to a United move. Frimpong was also a topic in Winter – United really wanted him then,”.
“You know, he’s a Dutch player and his connection to Erik ten Hag is very close. There should have been talks.”
The 22-year-old Netherlands starlet’s current deal with Bayer Leverkusen will expire in 2025 and as per a recent story published by Football Insider, the Bundesliga side value him at around £50million.
United do have quality options in the right back position such as Dalot and Wan-Bissaka but the duo have not been productive in the attacking third.
Frimpong can effectively play as a right midfielder if needed and this season, he has so far netted 5 goals and provided 7 assists in all competitions for the German side.
We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds and will keep you updated.
David de Gea ‘close to signing new two-year deal at Manchester United’
Manchester United are reportedly preparing to hand number one goalkeeper David de Gea a new two-year deal.
The Spaniard’s existing contract with the 20-time English champions is due to expire at the end of June, and there has been speculation surrounding his future at Old Trafford.
De Gea has been close to his best this season in terms of his reactions and shot-stopping abilities, but the 32-year-old’s struggles with the ball at his feet have led to claims that Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag could bring in a new number one this summer.
According to The Sun, the stopper is set to sign a new two-year deal at Old Trafford with a huge drop on his current salary, which is believed to be in the region of £375,000 a week.
The report claims that De Gea will be paid a lower basic wage, but it will rise to £250,000 a week providing that he plays in enough matches for the Red Devils.
The Spaniard will allegedly have to start around half of the club’s matches in all competitions next season in order to ensure that he picks up the maximum pay packet.
The proposed deal would therefore give Man United the option to sign a new number one and prevent De Gea from being on huge wages as a potential number two.
The former Atletico Madrid youngster has featured on 37 occasions for the Red Devils during the 2022-23 campaign, conceding 37 times and keeping 16 clean sheets in the process.
De Gea broke Man United’s clean sheet record, previously held by Peter Schmeichel, when he prevented Newcastle United from scoring in last weekend’s EFL Cup final.
The goalkeeper is 10th on Man United’s all-time appearance list, meanwhile, having represented the club on 524 occasions in all competitions since his arrival in 2011.
De Gea is now seemingly set to continue his time at the club, but there will be changes in the goalkeeping department this summer, with Tom Heaton only having a deal until the end of the season.
Jack Butland, meanwhile, is only on loan from Crystal Palace, with the Englishman, as it stands, set to return to his parent club at the end of the season.
Dean Henderson is due back at Man United following a loan spell at Nottingham Forest, but the 25-year-old could depart on a permanent basis this summer.
Porto‘s Diogo Costa and Brentford‘s David Raya are believed to be among the stoppers admired by Man United, and the latter recently hinted that he could leave the Bees this summer.
