France international Anthony Martial has been told that he “doesn’t deserve” to play again under Erik ten Hag amid his ongoing injury woes.
Martial’s career at Man Utd looked to be over last season as he was sent out on loan to La Liga outfit Sevilla.
The attacker struggled to make an impact for the Spanish side but he was afforded a fresh start under Ten Hag heading into this season.
The 27-year-old was one of United’s standout players during pre-season as he often got on the scoresheet. He has been involved in eight goals this term but he has been limited to just 14 appearances due to injuries.
His last Premier League appearance came as Man Utd beat rivals Man City 2-1 at Old Trafford on January 14. He has been out of action since as a result of a hip injury.
Martial is out of contract in the summer and it currently looks likely that he will move on.
Manchester Evening News are reporting that Martial’s return date is currently ‘unknown’ and ex-United player Paul Parker cannot see him playing for the club again.
“I think the prognosis for Anthony Martial is that he has played his last game for Man United. He can’t play through a pain barrier and that has caused Erik ten Hag now doesn’t trust him anymore, which makes sense. There is no reason to trust Martial,” Parker told bettors.
“So, I don’t think that we will ever see Martial playing for Man United again. I don’t think Erik ten Hag is that concerned about it because Martial doesn’t fit into his way of playing.”
Parker also suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit earlier this season shows that Ten Hag is willing to get rid of “certain players” when the time is right.
“Also, he doesn’t deserve to play again for Man United. He hasn’t taken his chances and he is showing no consistency at all,” Parker added.
“Everyone was hyping him up when he arrived but his time is up now. He has never enjoyed his time at Man United and now he has to move on.
“If you look at the way ten Hag has been with certain players… Look at Lingard, look at Pogba, look at Ronaldo, Martial is going to go. He’s not the player he once was. Erik ten Hag wants players that he hasn’t got to ask to work hard.
“The players he’s got at the moment are winners. Winning means something. They show emotion. I don’t see that in Martial so I don’t think he’s a good fit.”
