It has become a prevalent practice in the UFC for fighters to transition to a higher weight class after winning a championship title in their current weight division.
It seems that the current bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling, too, has the same plan. At the moment, ‘Funk Master’ is all set to square off against the former two-divisional champion, Henry Cejudo, at UFC 288. The bout is scheduled for May 6th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
However, the Jamaican has now taken the internet by surprise after sharing a video where he hints about his plan to move from bantamweight to featherweight. The most exciting part of the video is when the ‘Funkmaster’ is seen with ‘The Notorious’. Both Conor McGregor and Sterling are seen showing off their physiques with some fighter poses during their workout session. The video also caught the attention of the manager of Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Sterling posted the video with the UFC superstar on his Instagram and gave an attention-grabbing caption to the video. He wrote, “Maybe I really am a featherweight. Let me take out the turd trash bag first.”
The 33-year-old also added “funktorious” as a hashtag, blending both his and McGregor‘s nicknames together. The fans were super excited to see the Irishman with the Jamaican fighter.

The video caught the attention of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz and he decided to mock the former double-division champ.
“The only trash in the video @notoriousmma I don’t like nobody”
The video caught the attention of the American former mixed martial artist, Din Thomas. However, his focus was on the Irish superstar. He wrote:
“Well this is kind of fun to see Conor come out and actually hang with real fighters”
Under the post about the UFC bantamweight, Merab Dvalishvili commented:
“Let’s go”
One of the fans asked Sterling to move up to 145 and win the belt. He even stated that he is a fan of the current featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski.
“Definitely should try going for that 145 belt coming from a volk fan”
One of the fans motivated the Funkmaster to move up. According to him, Sterling will do well in the featherweight division.

One of Instagram’s users warned Sterling to stay away from Alexander Volkanovski.

Another fan pointed out how Sterling looks as big as McGregor and that it seems he is ready to be at 145 pounds.

What’s in store for the ‘Funkmaster’?
Aljamain Sterling has already achieved the belt in the bantamweight division when he fought against Petr Yan at UFC 285. Yan lost the bout as he was disqualified in round four due to an intentional illegal knee. This paved the way for the bantamweight throne to go to Sterling.
‘No Mercy’ and Sterling faced each other for a rematch at UFC 273, and once again the Russian lost the bout, but this time via decision. ‘The Funkmaster’ proved that he deserves to be the bantamweight champion after defending his title in a bout against T.J. Dillashaw at UFC 280. The fans now need to wait to find out what’s in store for the Funkmaster.
