Katy Perry was quite literally lost for words on Saturday after being invited on stage to sing I Still Call Australia Home at the G’Day USA gala in Los Angeles.
The American singer, 38, joined a handful of Aussie celebrities, including Miranda Kerr, Paul Hogan and Delta Goodrem, for the patriotic singalong, but clearly didn’t know the lyrics.
I Still Call Australia Home, written by Peter Allen in 1980, is a song about Australian expatriates’ longing for home, and has been used in adverts for Qantas for decades.
For many Aussies, especially those living overseas, it is an unofficial national anthem.

But it was painfully obvious to everyone present that Katy, who hails from Santa Barbara, California, was not familiar with the track.
The I Kissed a Girl star looked confused as she mumbled what few words she did know while glancing around nervously at the other stars on stage.
In one particularly cringeworthy moment, which aired on Sunrise on Monday, Katy froze on camera as Delta pushed the microphone in her face.
During the event, Katy had the honour of presenting model and beauty entrepreneur Miranda with the coveted Excellence in the Arts award.
Before the hand-off, the duo posed up a storm together on the blue carpet.

The pop queen looked nothing less than sensational in a shiny bralette top and matching flowing skirt.
Meanwhile, Miranda, who was previously married to Katy’s partner Orlando Bloom from 2010 to 2013, wowed in a glamorous white dress.
Her stylish strapless frock featured gathering along the front and clinched in at her waist to emphasise her toned physique.

G’Day USA is hosted annually by the American Australian Association and celebrates Australians who are prominent in the U.S. entertainment industry.
The awards are meant to highlight figures from film, television, music and pop culture who have enhanced Hollywood-Australia relations.
The gala planned a special tribute to Australian superstar Olivia Newton-John who died in August at the age of 73.
