Her promo looks have been exemplary
Margot Robbie has basically gifted us with a sartorial advent calendar this winter, giving new inspiration each day on the promotional tour for Babylon. As much as she kept her signature chic agenda, we’ve watched her go through a style renaissance, saying goodbye to Chanel and hello to her new fashion era.
She (and credit must go to her OG stylist Kate Young) has blessed us with a ‘how to’ guide in the build up to Babylon, for our own soirees this season. Think masterclasses in rocking a white suit in winter, elevating the classic leather coat, amping up the drama from day-to-night and styling an oversized blazer for transitional weather.
Margot stunned in a cut out dress from Alaia
Last night she stole the show (no surprises there) at the Babylon global premiere event in an incredible cut-out dress by Pieter Muller for Alaia. Earlier this week the 32-year-old wore a delightfully daring plunge dress on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and tonight she worked the red carpet wearing the wrap-around dress with mega cutouts – a style we’ve seen many of our favourite brands boasting this season, including Valentino and Nensi Dojaka.
It seems just as Hailey Bieber nailed combining retro trends at the Lakers game this week, Robbie is also combining trends, but our FW22’s favourites, as her elegant ensemble was also hooded – leaving two hair tendrils to frame her face. The hood trend has been adopted by the likes of Kate Moss and Katie Holmes to Lori Harvey this year. Eponymous Alaia founder Azzedine Alaia could perhaps be named the founding father of the ‘haute hood’ after Grace Jones wore it playing the character May Day in the 1985 James Bond film A View To Kill.
She brought her mum Sarie Kessler to the event. Cute
The lower half of the ensemble was no less noteworthy than the upper. The dress gathered to one side giving it an asymmetrical look, with an elegant drape that was dramatised with a thick fur hem. She paired the ensemble with semi sheer tights and black stilettos – a red-carpet pre requisite for cold weather season.
Just one chunky gold bracelet made up her bijouterie, but her triangular black nails added interest to her hands. LA nail artist Tom Bachik described his creation as ‘minimal deliberate chic’.
As much as we’ll miss Margot’s incredible fits, Babylon is finally in UK cinemas January 6.
