With the announcement of the next Spider-Man movie being in the works, fans are excited to witness the next chapter of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the MCU. But following the confirmation of the movie, Willem Dafoe has also showcased his interest in returning to MCU.

Even though The Lighthouse actor was initially hesitant about reprising the role of Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Following his experience in the movie and its colossal success at the box office, as it garnered around $1.9 Billion, Dafoe hasn’t brushed off the idea of reprising the role of Green Goblin.

Following his performance in the role of Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Willem Dafoe proved that even after 20 years, the actor can still deliver a tremendous performance as Norman Osborn. But despite the completion of his story, The Lighthouse actor is still open to the idea of returning. In an interview with Inverse, Dafoe expressed that if everything works out right, he might be willing to reprise his role in the MCU. He said,
“If everything was right, sure. I mean, that’s a great role. I liked the fact that it’s a double role both times. Twenty years ago, and fairly recently, both times [were] very different experiences, but I had a good time on both,”
Considering that the Multiverse is now a big thing in the MCU, Dafoe’s return as Green Goblin doesn’t seem far-fetched. But even though the actor is currently hoping to work with the MCU again, it wasn’t always the case, as the actor wasn’t sure about his return in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

While speaking withVariety,The Lighthouseactor explained that when he was initially approached to reprise the role of Green Goblin, he wasn’t sure how it exactly would have worked. Considering that the character died in the firstSpider-Manmovie, Dafoe was confused about his return as the actor wasn’t aware of the concept of MCU’s Multiverse at the time.
However, the actor later went on to commend his co-stars and expressed that he had a great time duringSpider-Man: No Way Home’sProduction. He said,
“It’s always a little difficult when you die in a movie to come back in any sequels. I thought I was finished. When they initially said, ‘Would you like to reprise this role?’ I thought, ‘Really? How does that happen?’ I was kind of stupid about it.”

Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home
Considering that MCU still hasn’t introduced its version of Norman Osborn, it’s highly probable that the upcoming Spider-Man entry might witness the character. And bearing in mind that Willem Dafoe is open to the idea of returning as Green Goblin, fans will hope to see the actor again in the MCU.
