Thor Is No Longer Mjolnir’s Wielder – [SPOILER] Is

Thor’s hammer falls into the clutches of a surprising character in the latest issue of Marvel’s Avengers: War Across Time limited series.

Thor’s hammer Mjolnir is reclaimed by its creator, Sindri, in Marvel’s Avengers: War Across Time #2.

Avengers: War Across Time #2 comes from writer Paul Levitz, artist Alan Davis, color artist Rachelle Rosenberg and letterer VC’s Cory Petit. In the issue, Thor, Iron Man/Tony Stark, Captain America and Wasp/Janet Van Dyne all head to the Baxter Building following their battle with a robotic Hulk in the previous issue. While they find Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic is away, the heroes attempt to activate Doctor Doom’s time portal in order to find Kang the Conquerer and stop him from conjuring more villains.

The heroes are unsuccessful in activating the machine; however, once they leave, Willie Lumpkin drops a package on the device that then turns it on. The time machine creates a portal that brings Sindri, a character created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby who first appeared in 1964’s Journey Into Mystery #103, to Midgard. Sindri is known for creating Thor’s hammer Mjolnir and is the king of Nidavellir, the realm that’s home to dwarves.

Thor Loses His Weapon to Its Creator

Sindri begins poking around the Baxter Building and quickly finds evidence the God of Thunder was recently there. Believing Thor to be the reason he was transported to Midgard, Sindri begins causing mayhem throughout the streets of New York City. Thor catches up with the dwarf king and the two quickly take to fighting. The rest of the Avengers also join in the battle but they prove to be little help as Sindri manages to bend Iron Man’s armor and evades Captain America’s shield.

Thor eventually pauses long enough to question why Sindri has come to Earth-616; although, Sindri doesn’t give a clear answer. Instead, Thor tells his foe that “Mjolnir will teach [him] a lesson” and throws his hammer in Sindri’s direction. Sindri manages to catch Mjolnir and boldly claims, “You forget, Thunder God — I forged this hammer! I can wield it as easily as you! Can you stand against its power?” Cover art and synopsis information for Avengers: War Across Time #3, which releases March 15, 2023, teases an epic battle between Thor and Sindri for the right to wield Mjolnir. The synopsis reads, “The king of the dwarfs has Mjolnir, the Lava Men are ready to erupt, and while the Avengers are all that stand between Earth and a fiery doom, Kang is picking the perfect moment to strike again.”
