Manchester United are facing an extremely important end to the season in the Premier League and FA Cup final, but thoughts have already turned to the summer transfer window
Manchester United are nervously looking over their shoulders at Liverpool as the Premier League season draws to a close.
United have lost two games in a row following their damaging 1-0 defeat at West Ham on Sunday and are now just a point ahead of Liverpool, albeit with a game in hand. Erik ten Hag and his players are now turning their attention to Saturday’s match against Wolves at Old Trafford when they can restore their gap and regain some confidence.
Thoughts are already turning to the summer transfer window when United are expected to be active as Ten Hag tries to improve his squad. That process will see players come in, but also some leave.
With that in mind, here are the latest headlines from around the club.
Weghorst hits back
Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst has hit back at his critics by insisting the club are happy with his output.
Weghorst has scored just two goals in 27 games since joining the club on loan from Burnley in January but says he is in talks over a permanent contract this summer.
“In those [talks] the club said they are very satisfied with me,” he told The Times after the West Ham game. “It has absolutely not been communicated with me that Man United don’t want to continue with me.
“They appreciate my value. They believe I am absolutely an asset for the team. Of course, I have heard different things [in the media]. I have to wait and see what happens and focus on our goals in the league and cup competitions.’”

United told to replace De Gea

Ian Wright has told Manchester United to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window because David de Gea is not good enough.
De Gea’s blunder at West Ham cost the side a valuable point and Wright thinks his race is run, with his contract expiring at the end of June.
“At some stage, Manchester United are going to have to look at that position,” Wright said on Premier League Productions. “The concentration just isn’t there at times. Is it a priority position for them? Maybe it’s not. But that goal could cost them the Champions League.
“Whenever you get bodies around him, he gets very, very shaky. I still can’t understand why teams don’t put in-swinging corners in to him at every single opportunity. He’s never comfortable in that situation.”

Ten Hag slammed
Erik ten Hag’s record has been criticised by Richard Keys ( Image: Getty Images)
Richard Keys has taken a pop at Erik ten Hag, insisting that he has not taken the club forward this season.
Ten Hag ended United’s seven-year wait for silverware by winning the Carabao Cup in February and currently has the club in the Champions League places, but Keys is not impressed.
“Ten Hag spent a record £220m last summer – more than United have ever spent in one window – to take them precisely…..nowhere,” he wrote.
“And he’s run out of excuses. There’s only so many times you can blame players for being ‘unprofessional’, or for not ‘sticking to the game plan’. That talk all wears a bit thin in a dressing room after a while.”
