The fallout of Barry Allen being transported elsewhere in The Flash‘s timeline is explored as the CW series continues its ongoing battle against the Negative Speed Force. Team Flash is left to investigate what happened to the Scarlet Speedster, only to find themselves in danger because of the corrosive entity. And with Central City’s greatest hero still missing, the rest of the team has to dig deep and tap into their full potential if they hope to survive.
As Team Flash ponders the circumstances of Barry’s sudden disappearance, Mark Blaine returns to help them, much to Khione’s visible happiness. Allegra Garcia consoles Iris West-Allen — but the building is suddenly hit by a strange energy blast that nearly kills two of Iris’ employees. Examining the comatose Allegra, Chester P. Runk notices the lingering energy signature matches the residue left at the scene of Barry’s disappearance and deduces that Team Flash is being hunted by a strange entity. He places S.T.A.R. Labs in lockdown after informing the others.
After witnessing Khione save the two employees by transforming parts of their bodies to contain plant physiology — horrifying them — a disgusted Mark berates Khione. The Flash secretly reveals he is possessed by the Negative Speed Force. Mark knocks out Cecile Horton and distracts Chester before moving to murder Iris… but Nora, the personification of the Speed Force, defends her. Before dissipating, Nora informs Khione that her unique abilities make her the only one capable of defeating the Negative Speed Force and freeing Mark from its control.
Embracing her powers, Khione tracks down Mark to Killer Frost’s old apartment in Central City and confronts him. Tapping deeply into her powers, Khione disassembles and reconstructs Mark’s body free of the Negative Speed Force’s corrosive influence, though the Negative Speed Force crystal vanishes before she can claim it. In the midst of the battle, Iris goes into labor just in time for Barry to return to his normal timeline before they go to the hospital to welcome their baby.
Team Flash take an overjoyed Iris and Barry to the hospital give birth to their daughter while Allegra recovers back at S.T.A.R Labs and Mark sets out to track down the Negative Speed Force crystal in order to destroy it. Khione comes to terms with the fact that she has become a goddess and decides she is best focusing on her abilities after defeating the Negative Speed Force. Barry prepares to give Khione his blessing only to abruptly disappear again, leaving the rest of Team Flash just as shocked by his absence as they were before.
Eddie Thawne’s exact physical double, Malcolm Gilmore, visits the Central City Police Department in 2049 to learn more about the file on Eddie he previously discovered. As Malcolm speaks with Eddie’s old colleagues, he is plagued by an ominous voice that instructs him to find Iris while receiving visions of Eddie’s life. Digging up Eddie’s grave, Malcolm discovers it’s empty — and realizes he is Eddie. The Flash ends on another ominous note as Malcolm pulls the bullet that Eddie shot himself with out of his chest.
Developed for television by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns, The Flash airs Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. on The CW, with episodes available to stream on the CW app the following day.
