The highly anticipated sequel to 2020’s Extraction – which became Netflix’s most-streamed original movie upon its release – was supposed to be filmed in Sydney, but producers decided in August to relocate to the Czech Republic.
There were apparently concerns at the time about the Covid-19 lockdowns in New South Wales and the possibility of the set being shut down due to a virus outbreak.
Chris said on Monday’s the Today show that this was a bad idea in hindsight, after the Czech Republic saw a surge in Covid cases that continue to put a strain on the hospital system.
The country reported 20,315 new Covid cases on November 27, which was actually a drop in daily cases. On the same day the previous week, the nation of 10.7 million people – only 58 per cent of whom are vaccinated – reported 22,957 new cases.

By contrast, NSW recorded 208 new cases of Covid and no deaths on Monday, with the low death rate most likely the result of a very high vaccination uptake.
Last July, Extraction was named Netflix’s most-watched original film of all time.
Extraction follows Tyler Rake (Hemsworth), a former SASR operator-turned-mercenary who is hired by India’s biggest drug lord to rescue his son who was kidnapped by Bangladesh’s biggest drug lord.
The film is based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, Fernando Leon Gonzalez, Eric Skillman, and the Russo brothers.
