But the 30-year-old has insisted that the Red Devils have already moved on following his departure after declaring that ‘football goes on’.

Ronaldo had his contract terminated at the Theatre of Dreams last month by mutual consent as a result of his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan.

United didn’t miss the 37-year-old in their first Premier League match after the World Cup break as they eased to a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

And Eriksen, who provided the assist for Marcus Rashford’s stunner in the victory, commented on the Al Nassr target’s legacy at United following the match.

He said: “First of all we are sad that Ronaldo is not part of it.

“His legacy and his name at any club is special, for me to be fortunate to play with him in my career was very nice.

“But the football goes on.

“You feel that the next game after, people will forget what it was like before and now our focus is really like he is not here.

“The atmosphere is good, we have a lot of people coming back from the World Cup, the last guys are coming back and everyone is coming together.

“The atmosphere is good. It helps winning games and also before we went away for the World Cup we had a few good games and good wins and it makes it easier to come back and start like this.”

The win over Forest saw United close the gap on fourth-placed Tottenham to just a point, with Erik ten Hag’s side having a game in hand over Spurs.

United are also in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, where they will face League One outfit Charlton for a place in the semi-finals.

Speaking to talkSPORT ahead of the clash with Forest, Eriksen revealed he is eyeing up silverware to end United’s wait for a first trophy since 2017.

The Denmark international remarked: “It’s been a few years since winning a trophy the last time.

“From where the club were to where we are now, the aim is to focus on every competition and see where we are in the end.

“It hasn’t specifically been said that we have to win this or win that, all of the players just want to win as much as possible.

“But to get there we first need to prove that we deserve to be there.

“For us it’s about every tournament. Like you saw against Burnley, even the Carabao Cup is important for us.”
