Liverpool’s ‘schoolboy defending’ slammed as Leicester star ‘like knife through butter’

Liverpool’s defensive woes showed no sign of improvement as they parted like the Red Sea to gift Leicester’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall the opening goal inside five minutes at Anfield.

Liverpool were slammed for their “schoolboy defending” after Leicester breached their defence to take the lead at Anfield.

The Reds fell behind inside five minutes of the Premier League clash on Friday (December 30) evening with Foxes midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall making the most of a massive gap in their backline to race in and score past Alisson.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher called out his former side’s defenders for gifting the visitors the lead. He said on commentary: “That was like a knife through butter! How easy was that?

“They win every challenge, the first one, the second one, then he goes right through the heart of Liverpool and finishes with aplomb. It’s a shocking start from Liverpool.”

And viewers watching on at home were equally as critical. One tweeted: “Shocking defending. That’s schoolboy stuff for f***s sakes!”

Another echoed: “Shocking Sunday League football.” One asked: “What on earth are the Pool defenders doing?! The great VVD can’t organise a damn thing.”

“This defending is terrible LMFAOOO,” posted one, while another pleaded: “Can we stop saying that VVD is on a level with Rio and Vidic now please?”

One commented: “Liverpool’s backline parted like the Red Sea there.” And one joked: “Rare you see every single defender f*** up in one move.”

There was more comical defending in the first half but up the other end of the pitch, as Leicester centre-back Wout Faes scored two own-goals in the space of seven minute to turn the game on its head.
