Jamie Carragher ridiculed himself on commentary after his assessment of Kevin De Bruyne’s performance against Chelsea came back to haunt him.
In Thursday night’s match at Stamford Bridge, Manchester City struggled to click into gear in the first half, with De Bruyne having a tough time influencing the game from midfield.
As De Bruyne went to take a corner early in the second half, Carragher claimed: ‘Not been his day today’.

However, he was made to look foolish almost immediately as De Bruyne proceeded to whip in an inviting cross that Nathan Ake headed against the post.
Carragher saw the funny side of his gaffe, poking fun at himself by joking: ‘What idiot commentator would question Kevin De Bruyne?!’
De Bruyne came into the game more as the match wore on, and had a hand in the winning goal.
The Belgian playmaker passed the ball perfectly into the path of Jack Grealish who squared the ball for Riyad Mahrez to tap home from close range.
De Bruyne proceeded to whip in a great cross for Nathan Ake, and Carragher poked fun at himself for ever questioning the Belgian playmaker
City were put under pressure in the closing stages, but managed to hold firm to close the gap to leaders Arsenal to five points.
After a disappointing World Cup which saw Belgium go out in the group stages, De Bruyne has looked somewhere close to his best since returning to City.
He registered two assists in his side’s victory against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, and has played every minute in City’s three league matches, which they have taken seven points from to remain within touching distance of Arsenal.
