When it comes to the Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi debate, most Argentines are in the same camp — that is, unless you’re Yamila Rodriguez.
Messi inspired Argentina to World Cup glory at the end of last year and received a hero’s welcome when he returned to Rosario.
Yet, despite being one of the most revered female players to don the blue and white stripes for her country, Rodriguez is actually team Ronaldo.
Want proof? Well, the 24-year-old is such a keen admirer of the Portuguese star that she even has his face tattooed on her leg.
It’s worth pointing out that Rodriguez had her tattoo inked well before Messi lifted the World Cup trophy.Has her opinion on football’s greatest-ever player now changed? Who knows? But one thing that’s for sure is that Rodriguez remains a CR7 superfan.
Rodriguez’s admiration for Ronaldo
In an interview on ESPN Vivo, Rodriguez admitted her love for Ronaldo and stressed that she would always prefer the Portuguese striker and Diego Maradona to Messi.
“My idol is Cristiano Ronaldo,” she stressed.
After seeing Rodriguez’s tattoo, the reporter then asked the Argentine about Messi.
“Not Messi” she responded.
The reporter pressed further and enquired about the Paris Saint-Germain forward again but Rodriguez was unwavering in her beliefs.
“Not Messi — Cristiano and Diego always,” she emphasised.
Rodriguez even has Ronaldo’s name in her Instagram bio and has shared a photo of the Al Nassr striker on the back of her phone.
Fans react to Rodriguez’s tattoo
A number of fans were shocked to see an Argentina star sporting the face of Messi’s long-time rival and shared their views on social media.
“His [Ronaldo’s] influence reached the country [where] he’s most hated. UNREAL,” said one Twitter user.
“This lady is getting cancelled in Argentina. 100 percent,” wrote another.
A third joked: “Isn’t this like treason?”
