A little crocodile was spotted in an S’An nature reserve relaxing on the back of what seemed to be a rock close to a watering well.
The ‘rock’ suddenly moved, pulling the crocodile out of the water, and it became clearly obvious that the ‘rock’ was actually a hippo.
The enormous hippo had dove into the river to cool off, and the young crocodile pounced on it thinking it was a rock because its back was only visible from above the water. James Armstrong, a 39-year-old photographer, caught this amusing sᴄᴇɴᴇ while on a yearly trip to the bush with friends at Klaserie Private Game Reserve.
James, a resident of Johannesburg, claimed that although he wasn’t immediately aware, he soon saw the crocodile perched on the back of one of the hippos. He said that due to the drought, the waterhole where they were game viewing was one of the few sources of water for miles around. The hippos were just 10 meters away from them.
Absolutely by ᴀᴄᴄɪᴅᴇɴᴛ, he started snapping photos as soon as he noticed the crocodile and hippo interaction. According to the comments he had received on the photos, that was not a frequent encounter at all. In actuality, it’s very rare.
The young croc fell into the water as the hippo started thrashing around and making a little grunting noise when it became aware of them. However, the crocodile obviously didn’t bother because the hippo just climbed back up onto its back without even batting an eye.
Mr. James said that he was ecstatic when he viewed his photographs. It was a really unusual encounter, and when he looked through his photos, he realized he had soᴍᴇᴛʜing very unique.
