Al Hilal are reportedly planning to offer Lionel Messi a staggering contract worth £245million that would eclipse Cristiano Ronaldo’s deal with Al Nassr.
Ronaldo, 37, headed to Al Nassr at the start of 2023 after leaving Manchester United on a free transfer. But the Portugal icon was given a whopping £175m a year contract by the Saudi Arabian giants to head to the Middle East, making him one of the wealthiest sports players in the world.
However, the forward is set to fall behind Messi in the wage rankings if reports linking the Paris Saint Germain star with a move to Al Nassr’s biggest rivals Al Hilal prove to be true. In a bid to trounce their bitter foes’ poach of Ronaldo, Al Hilal are said to be willing to pay Messi £245m every year, £70m more than what the ex-Juventus star is raking in, according to Mundo Deportivo.
And the transfer seems to be gaining traction as the New Arab claim Messi’s dad and agent Jorge is in Riyadh to discuss the transfer with Al Hilal. Plus, a relative of the Emir of Qatar, the Nasser Al-Attiyah, added fuel to the fire by saying: “Messi, his next club after his departure from Paris Saint-Germain, will be Saudi Arabia.”
But as Al-Hilal are banned from signing players until next summer, they’re allegedly aiming to tie up Messi’s signature by the end of the season, setting the stage for a scintillating reunion between the Argentinian idol and Ronaldo.

The pair faced off in several El Clasico matches in the La Liga when Messi played for Barcelona, and Ronaldo represented Real Madrid. And they could potentially go toe to toe once more in the “Riyadh derby” between Al Nassr and Al Hilal held each year.
If Al Hilal are successful in their attempt to lure Messi to the Middle East, they’ll snag him on a free transfer as his contract with PSG expires when the current campaign finishes.

However, PSG aren’t willing to let their star player go without a fight, and are said to be in talks with the attacker over a £30m a season contract which will keep him in France for at least another year.
But Messi’s in high demand and both PSG and Al Hilal will have to fight off interest from a slew of MLS sides who are keen on signing the star.
