Dinosaur footprints dating back 113 million years have been uncovered after severe drought conditions dried up a river in Texas. The tracks, mostly believed to belong to the 15ft tall, seven-ton Acrocanthosaurus species of dinosaur (pictured in an artist’s rendering), were found by experts at the state’s Dinosaur Valley State Park. Sauroposeidon, which was about 60ft tall and weighed around 44 tons, was also likely to be responsible for some of the prints, officials said. A video posted by the park on social media shows the newly-uncovered footprints appearing as deep grooves in the muddy riverbed measuring several human hands…

A dinosaur fossil discovered partially buried within a hillside could be a rare complete skeleton, researchers say. The exposed fossil of a hadrosaur – a large, plant-eating, duck-billed species – was found in the Dinosaur Provincial Park of Alberta, Canada. All that can be seen is a large portion of the tail and right hind foot, but the animal is sitting in a way that suggests the entire skeleton could be preserved within the hill. Complete with fossilised skin, the remains were discovered during a visit by ecologists from the University of Reading in 2021. As entire skeletons are very rare, the…

An exquisitely preserved dinosaur embryo has been found curled up inside a fossilised egg, unearthed in southern China, dating back some 66–72 million years. The embryo has been dubbed ‘Baby Yingliang’ and was found in the rocks of the ‘Hekou Formation’ at the Shahe Industrial Park in Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province. Palaeontologists led from the University of Birmingham said that Baby Yingliang belonged to species of toothless, beaked theropod dinosaurs, or ‘oviraptorosaurs’. Oviraptors, which were feathered, are found in the rocks of Asia and North America and had varied beaks and body sizes allowing them to adopt a wide range of diets. The specimen is one of the most…
